When you have been single for a while, it can sometimes feel like you are destined to be single forever and that there is nobody out there right for you. But do not despair—that is absolutely not true and while it can take a while to meet the right person, the chances of you growing old with only a few stray cats for company are pretty remote.
I don’t want to get old and lonely!
Unfortunately, love might not come looking for you, so you must go looking for love! The best way to meet that special person and find love is to increase the opportunities for this fortuitous event to happen. And that requires effort on your part!
1> Dating sites are the best way to meet a large cross-section of singles. If you have tried this avenue before, but with limited success, give it another go but pick a different site. Try one that caters for your interests, or choose one where your mates write the profile on your behalf. Internet dating sites can work, but you have to be in it to win it!
2> Take up a new hobby: the best way to meet new people is to spend your leisure time in the company of like-minded individuals. Instead of spending every evening and weekend with the same group of close friends, step outside of your comfort zone and take up a new hobby with new people. If your New Year Resolution also involves a diet and fitness plan, try a new sport and look forward to meeting some fit singles at the same time!
3> Give yourself a makeover and see how much extra attention you enjoy from the people who previously failed to notice you at all. This is a great way to rejuvenate your self-confidence and very often a small boost to your self-esteem is all it takes for you to notice the cute singleton who has been trying to catch your attention for weeks!
4> Have some work is is done on your home: inviting a selection of hunky workmen into your home to do some manual labor for you is a great opportunity to test your flirting technique. And if you are very lucky, one of them might be fit and single!
5> If you normally fall into the trap of taking a holiday with family or married friends, book a holiday somewhere different and go alone. It might seem a scary prospect to travel alone, but it will force you to socialise with other people and you might meet somebody both interesting and single. Think positive—it happened to Shirley Valentine, so it could happen to you!
I hope at least one of these tips will help you find love, but don’t worry if it doesn’t happen immediately. Be patient and think positive: sometimes somebody comes along when you are least expecting them to appear.
And in the meantime?
Enjoy your single status and the extra freedom it affords you!
