Bhairavi Temple:
Bhairavi Temple is situated at a distance of 3 kilometers from Malkangiri town. The idol of this temple regularly worshiped by the local people and the people coming from Jeypore. This holy religious place is covered by hills. The king of Malkangiri was started the worshiped of this place and beautifully decorated this temple.
A famous Shiv Linga is found nearby ‘Goi Hill’. Mahashivratri is the main festival of this place. During this time huge numbers of devotees gather here to celebrate the occasion. Inside the temple, the 6 feet idol of Lord Shiva always attracts every tourist’s eyes.
Another attraction of this hilly area is ‘Tarini Temple’. It is located at a distance of 2 kilometers from Malkangiri city center, on the way to Jeypore. The scenic beauty of this hilltop regularly attracts thousands of visitors.
Manyamkonda:
Manyamkonda is a famous religious place, located at a distance of 75 kilometers from the district headquarter of Malkangiri district. This holy place is famous for Lord Mahaprabhu. A beautifully decorated temple is situated in this place and the god is being worshiped by the devotees. The temple surrounded by the number of small hills. “Baba Yatra” is the main festival of this place. It starts from ‘Mauli Maa Temple’ of Malkangiri. Every year during the time of festival a big fair hosted here by the temple authority of this place. Three gods namely ‘Kanam Raju’ relates to Lord Krishna, ‘Pota Raju’ relates to Vima and ‘Bal Raju’ relates to Arjun are being worshiped in this festival. The scenic beauty and Baba Yatra festival always collect a huge number of visitors.
Bonda Hill:
Bonda Hill is situated at a distance of 80 kilometers from Malkangiri district headquarters. This hill is surrounded by dense forest. Inside the forest, a tribal community lived here namely Bondas. The primitive tribal community of this place now remains naked, as per the Epic Ramayan it is believed that they were cursed by Goddess Sita, as they laughed at her while she was bathing in a kunda which is named as Sita Kunda at Bonda Hill. “Patkhanda Vatra” is the major festival of the Bondas community. Every year in the month of January During the time of festival they celebrate their festival and worship a sword. They believe that this sword belongs to Pandavas.
Ammakunda:
Ammakunda is a great tourist spot in Malkangiri district. It is located at a distance of 70 kilometers from district headquarters, near Khoriput Block. A natural waterfall is the main attraction of this place. This place is surrounded by the dense forest and small hills. The waterfall is falling down from a good height and subsequent flow of water forming a narrow gorge. Numerous fishes are found in this gorge and the fishes are quite friendly to the human being. According to the mythology, it is believed that the fishes are the avatar (Matsya Avatar) of Lord Vishnu.
Balimela Dam:
Balimela Dam or reservoir was constructed by the joint agreement of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh. It is built over the River Sileru a tributary of the Godavari River. The water of this dam is the main source of irrigation in Malkangiri district. Mainly the reservoir was constructed for generating power. The 360 Mw power generated by diverting the Balimela waters to the Potteru sub – river basin.
