Burdwan or Bardhaman is a district of West Bengal in India. Christ Church:

Christ Church is one of the famous Church in West Bengal. In the year 2016, this beautiful Church has been completed 200 years. Christ Church is red bricks structure and it was built by the Church Missionary Society in 1816 under the supervision of Captain Charles Stuart. Charles Stuart was Captain of East India Company, who collect every year Rs. 12.50 from the king for maintaining the Church.

Once upon a time, Rajbati was most beautiful building in all over Burdwan District. This beautiful building was constructed by Mahatab Chand Bahadur in 1851. Now, this attractive building is a part or administrative office of the Burdwan (Bardhaman) University.

108 Shiv Mandir:

108 Shiv Mandir is located in Kalna, Burdwan. ‘108 Shiva Mandir’ also popularly known as ‘108 Shiva Temple’. Here 108 Shivlings or Shiv Murti are present, that’s why it’s called as 108 Shiva Temple. All temple are made as same structure.  This holy Temple was built in 1788 under the supervision of Rani Bishnukumari (Queen of Burdwan). Here every year celebrate Maha – Shivratri.

Meghna Saha Planetarium:

Meghna Saha Planetarium is situated in Burdwan and it is like as Birla Planetarium of Kolkata, West Bengal. It is one of the attractive sites for children. It was built by Japanese Optical Company with assistance from the Japanese and Indian Government.

Science Centre:

Science Centre is located near the front gate of Burdwan University in Burdwan district. This center has a huge collection of science-based materials, such as balloon, balls, the magic of chemistry, the secret behind flying objects etc. This center Provides a lot of information on science. This unique science center is a creation of the joint effort by the Central Government and the State Government of West Bengal. This center is open for all from 11.30 am to 7 pm.

Kankeleshwari Kalibari:

Kankeleshwari Kalibari or Kankeleshwari Temple is one of the famous holy temples of Burdwan district. Kankeleshwari Kalibari is the temple of Kali Mata. These baroque structures of Mata kali are located in Bishnupur Mandir in Kanchan Nagor. It is made by precious stones and black Rocks. Stones and Rocks are collected on the bedrock of Damodar River for making the unique and complex structure.

Golap Bagh:

The Golap Bagh literally means “Garden of roses”. It is one of the most beautiful tourist spots in Burdwan District.  It is a Botanical and Zoological garden constructed by Maharaja Bijoy Chandra Mahatab in 1884. Beautiful features of this garden covered a big area of Burdwan. One Hundred and Fifty types of trees are present in this garden, such as mango, casuarina, eucalyptus, jam, shimul etc.  Now it is a part of Burdwan University.

Curzon Gate:

Curzon Gate is one of the popular tourist destination and historical place in Burdwan (Bardhaman) District. This historical place is located near the main city. This gate was constructed by the Maharaja Bijoy Chandra Mahatab in 1903 to welcome Lord Curzon, viceroy of India. That’s why it is called Curzon Gate. Officially the name of this gate was Star Gate of India, but nowadays it is known as Bijoy Toran. This gate was structured by Italian architect and it is the perfect example of Indo-Italian architecture.

Damodar Riverside:

Why is Damodar a Nad in Bengali? Because Damodar is a Male river. Burdwan (Bardhaman) city is located on the banks of River Damodar. The Damodar is a large River. Tourist can enjoy a picnic on the banks of the river. Once upon a time, Damodar is called “Sorrow of Bengal”, but now it is the lifeline of Asansol. Boating Facilities is also available in this river.

Tomb of Sher Afghan:

The Tomb of Sher Afgan is situated at Pir Behram near Rajbati. Sher Afgan was the last Afgan jaigidars in Burdwan (Bardhaman). There is an interesting triangular love story of Jahangir, Noor Jahan and Sher Afgan behind the Tomb. When Quttubuddin was the ruler of Delhi he was sent to fight Sher afghan by Jahangeer.  They both are killed each other in a mutual skirmish. Sher Afghan was married to the beautiful Mehrunnisa. After Sher Afghan’s died his widow married to Jahangir and became the empress of India Noor Jahan.

Sarbamangala Temple:

Sarbamangala Temple is famous as a Shakti peeth of Mata Shakti. This holy temple is situated is Sarbamangala road in Burdwan (Bardhaman) District. Sarbamangala Temple is an actually different form of Maa Durga. This temple is so big and so high. Most interesting Features of this temple is Mata’s Murti and terracotta structure.  The goddess was established by the king Kirti Chand and this temple structure was completed by King Mahatab Chand.

Kalyaneshwari Temple:

Kalyaneshwari Temple is located in Kalyaneshwari in Asansol of Burdwan (Burdhaman) District. Kalyaneshwari is the 500-year-old location but the present temple is not very old. Present Kalyaneshwari Temple was built by Panchakot Raj.

The Deer Park:

The deer park is a major tourist attraction of Burdwan (Bardhaman) District. There are so many parks are present in this district but this deer park is so colorful sanctuary. Various types of animals and birds are present here, such as deer, leopards, and tigers.  The tomb of Bijoy Chand Mahatab is situated at the end of the reserve forest. Here also has a guest house to spend the night.

Krishnasayar Park and Lake:

The big lake and park Krishnasayar was built by King of Burdwan (Bardhaman) in the year 1961. This beautiful park covering 33 acres area. Once Upon a time, Krishnasayar is a big lake but now the present days it has been developed into a beautiful Park. This park is very popular for boating and sightseeing. This park also hosting a state level dancing festival during the time of holi.  This park also has an aquarium and here present various types of fish.

Garh Jungle:

Garh Jungle is a wonderful historical place of Burdwan (Bardhaman) District. It is situated towards the eastern end of Durgapur. The place is just 20 km away from the city. This place is also known as “Medhasram”. If you like adventure, you must visit this spot so you can gather so many experiences about this forest. Now it becomes a wonderful picnic spot.

Deul Park:

Dual Park is situated near Garh Jungle of Burdwan (Bardhman) district. The place is just 25 km away from the city center of Durgapur. It is a very good spot for adventure lovers. This park is situated on the banks of river Ajay. Beautiful garden, varieties of seasonal flowers, fruits, joy rides, boating and an old temple of Maa Durga are main features of this place.

Anand Amusement Park:

Anand Amusement Park is located in Durgapur of Burdwan (Bardhaman) District. It is one and only amusement park in this city. Anand Amusement Park is also known as Water Park. It is a place where you can enjoy different types of riders, water wave pool, toy train, ropeway etc.

Ghagar Buri Chandi Temple:

Ghagar Buri Chandi Temple is situated on Kali Pathadi in Asansol of Burdwan (Bardhaman) district. This temple is covered a huge area.  Ghagar Buri Chandi Temple is famous for Ghagra Buri Mata. Ghagra Buri Mata is another name of Mata Chandi or Mata Kali.

Durgapur Barrage:

Durgapur Barrage is one of the major attraction of Durgapur City. The barrage is built to control the overflowing of Damodar River in monsoons. This Huge barrage (Length 692 meters) also connects Durgapur with Bankura. So many beautiful picnic spots are situated in Burdwan (Bardhaman) District, Durgapur Barrage is one of them. This Barrage is also famous for its natural sight view. The Barrage constitutes 34 gates which are maintained by Government of West Bengal.
