What is domain name?
A domain name is a unique name that identifies an internet resource such as a website. It is an identification string that defines a realm of administrative autonomy, authority or control on the Internet. Domain names are formed by the rules of the Domain Name System (DNS). Any name registered in the DNS is a domain name. The functional description of domain names is presented in the Domain Name System article.
The following are common top-level domain names:
1. .com – Commercial interests.
2. .edu – universities and other educational institutions.
3. .gov – State and central government.
4. .net – Special Internet System.
5. .org – Nonprofits and other organizations.
6. .biz – Business
Country basis domain names:
· .co.uk – Commercial domain name of United Kingdom
· .co.in – Commercial domain name of India.
· .in – Indian domain name for general use.
What is a sub domain name?
A sub domain is a domain that is a part of a larger domain; the only domain that is not also a sub domain is the root domain. For example, west.example.com and east.example.com are sub domains of the example.com domain, which in turn is a sub domain of the com top-level domain (TLD). Another example, thementalclub.com comprises a sub domain of the .com domain, and download.thementalclub.com comprises a sub domain of the domain thementalclub.com.
Top-level domains:
The top-level domains (TLDs) such as .com, .net and .org are the highest level of domain names of the Internet. Top-level domains form the DNS root zone of the hierarchical Domain Name System. Every domain name ends with a top-level domain label.
