The modern Imperial Palace is situated on the previous site of Edo Castle, a large park area in the center of Tokyo, surrounded by a moat and huge stone walls, and only a few steps away from Tokyo Station. The rest of the year provides guided tours of the palace grounds but does not enter the building.
